Rogers Communications and Shaw Media have joined forces to unveil Shomi, a Canadian video-streaming service that will attempt to rival Netflix. Coming to Canadian consumers this November for $8.99 (same price as Netflix), Shomi will showcase over 11,000 hours worth of binge-worthy TV shows and blockbuster hits, including 340 TV series and over 1,200 movies with one third of the content being Canadian and the potential for original programming, exclusive to Shomi, for your viewing pleasure!
Whether you want to watch past seasons of Modern Family and Sons of Anarchy to Shameless and American Horror Story, Shomi will be available to users on both Android and iOS devices (mobile and tablet), online, set top boxes, as well as on XBOX 360.

But what does that mean for your cable services and on-demand programs like Rogers-On-Demand or the Shaw Go App? Keith Pelley (President of Rogers Communications) and Barbara Williams (Senior Vice President, Content of Shaw Media) claim that Shomi will in fact compliment the cable services and the on-the-go apps. Users will be able to watch back-episodes of their favourite shows on Shomi and keep up-to-date with seasons that are currently on air via their cable services.
Currently only launching with current Rogers and Shaw customers, would you sign up for Shomi? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below or tweet us @ViewTheVibe.
