Perhaps I’m dating myself as I write this, but do you remember the movie “Office Space” where they take the printer out back and just go ham on it? Have you always wanted to do that? Or better yet, have you ever just wanted to break shit? Here’s the thing: we all have shitty, terrible days. Life is more often than not a total garbage fire and what better way to relieve your stress than in a closed off room, for 30 minutes, just breaking shit? Welcome to Battle Sports’ The Rage Room.
Now I know what some of you are probably thinking: that sounds super weird. But think about it. With the help of a baseball bat and some inanimate objects, you can blow off some steam and release all the tension and stress you’re feeling in your life. There is one thing to be said: it’s a cost-effective way for therapy and anger management.

A lot of times people keep anger and anxiety bottled up and don’t take the time to unleash what’s inside. In a fun and safe environment, Toronto’s Rage Room provides all the protective equipment you need from coveralls, face masks, leather gloves and protective vests. With packages ranging from $20 (1 person, 5 items) to $100 (4 people, 40+ items) – you can spend anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes smashing away everything from plates to pictures and you guessed it – even a printer. What I really loved was that you can choose all the items you want to smash prior to going into the room or you can even bring your own objects. Uh, hello ex partner’s watch!

So first hand, what is the experience like? Getting suited up and picking out the items I was going to smash, I felt ready to get this done. My week had been a bit terrible and yes, I was ready to smash some things. One of the things I wasn’t expecting once I got inside the room was just how much of a work-out it would be – not just mental but a physical one as well. With all that swinging and kicking and smashing, you would be surprised to see the amount of sweat you build up in just a small amount of time. It’s intense, in more ways than one.

The other thing that I had found, while I was smashing away, was a genuine thrill for what I was doing. You see, it’s almost as if adrenaline had taken over and this simulated act of violence was therapeutic. Would I reenact this in public – absolutely, not. But it gave me this weird thrill and calming feeling that I don’t know how to describe.
Getting to the Rage Room is no easy task. A two-hour journey by subway and bus, so be prepared. If that journey doesn’t make you angry (ha – TTC rage) then, I don’t know what will prepare you for smashing, breaking and letting off some steam.
