Cancer is no joke. It is a serious, tragic, and life threatening disease that affects millions of Canadians. In 2014, it is estimated that 191,300 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed, while another 76,600 deaths from cancer will occur in Canada alone. Scary stuff.
Stand Up to Cancer is a groundbreaking charitable initiative that aims to raise significant funds for cancer research. Specifically, the money raised during this initiative is being used to fund innovative, outside-the-box, non-traditional cancer research. The goal of this research is to get new, effective therapies to existing patients and save lives now. This research is extremely important, and, for millions of people, could mean the difference between life and death.

Since 2008, Stand Up to Cancer has aired live television specials featuring some of the world’s most respected actors – including Michael Douglas, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Justin Timberlake, and many more – to raise funds for this initiative. Tonight at 8pm, Ben Stiller will be joined in Toronto by Canadian talent and personalities, public officials, as well as members of the Canadian Cancer Research society to headline the Toronto portion of the international broadcast.
CBC, CityTV, CTV and Global will join ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and dozens of US cable outlets in concurrently airing a commercial-free, star-studded special from Hollywood. The live show draws the entertainment community’s star power and global reach to rally the public around ending cancer’s horrific reign as the leading cause of death in the world.
