World MasterCard Fashion Week went intergalactic for one night as Star Wars fans, the city’s fashion set and a slew of storm troopers, came together for a design competition inspired by George Lucas’ sci-fi classic.
Six Canadian designers were tasked with creating a head-to-toe look inspired by Star Wars in a fashion week showdown sponsored by Disney in partnership with the Mercedes-Benz Start-up competition.
Star Wars’ original Oscar-winning set decorator, Roger Christian (a man who deserves infinite props for creating the original lightsaber), was on hand to give out the award. Montreal-based UNTTLD beat out other labels like Beaufille and Narces to take home the $15,000 prize for their Princess Leia-inspired dress.

Designers Jose Manuel St-Jacques and Simon Belanger took their cue from the iconic gold bikini costume worn by Carrie Fischer as her character was held captive by Jabba the Hutt in 1983’s Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
The UNTTLD duo are on a winning streak having won the Mercedes-Benz Start Up contest for emerging designers the night before, earning them a fully-produced runway show, a feature in Fashion Magazine and a $30,000 bursary.
And on top of all that, Christian gifted them with their very own light sabers.
May the (fashion) force be with them.
