If fashion were high school (isn’t it, though?), fall would be the biggest, most anticipated party of the year. Between the sudden explosion of wardrobe options and the multinational melange of fashion weeks, reading style magazines makes one feel like you’re at a shindig with all the cool kids. The scene is happening, everybody seems to be especially beautiful, and even the weirdos are dressed to the nines. Unlike the keggers of days past, however, this party doesn’t end when mom and dad get home from the cottage. In fact, this sartorial rager is just beginning.
Trends for fall 2014 are all about making statements with your clothing. Whether it be bold prints, over-sized knits, or fabulous furs, your style should be so big that people are able to see it from space. This is also true in the colour department, with the hottest shades this autumn being heavy hitters like orange, dramatic monochromatic, (boring) blue, and summer carryovers of pastel and white.
Get the pretty party started with our list of the five fall 2014 fashion trends that will get everybody’s attention… in a good way.

Leopard
Does leopard ever go out of style? (Correct answer: No.) While lions may be kings of the jungle, anybody prowling the streets of our concrete jungle could tell you that here leopards reign supreme. Hunt the catwalks (pun intended) of Balmain, Vanessa Bruno, Tom Ford, and Canada’s own Dsquared2 for this near purrfect print.
Matching Sets
Not since Agent Dana Scully and Hilary Clinton made the female powersuit palatable to heterosexual women (note: facetious… sort of) have matching tops and bottoms looked so good. Head-to-toe patterns and knits are a great way to serve up a whole lot of look this season. Check out some seriously matchy-matchy separates on the runways of Nina Ricci, Marc Jacobs, and Alexander Wang for inspiration.

Blanket Capes and Scarves
As the weather begins to get colder, one of the hardest parts of fall is getting out of bed in the morning. For autumn 2014 however, you can just take your blankets with you! Over-sized statement scarves are a huge (pun, once again, intended) trend this year, as seen on the catwalks of Burberry Prorsum and Stella McCartney.
Wrap Coats
Olivia Pope, is that you boo? Mothball your traditional trench coat and go for bold with an oversized, plush wrap coat. Wide, boxy sleeves and dramatically long lengths mean that you’ll get maximum attention while still being able to stay warm. We suggest going entirely over the top by adopting one of the season’s hottest colour trends like pastel, orange, or – if your look is a little more classic – navy blue. If you’re feeling hesitant, we suggest assuaging your fears with the runways of Chloé, Altuzarra, Delpozo, and Richard Chai.
Fun Furs
Fur… but like, the kind you’d find on a Muppet. Whether it be sweaters, coats, jackets, or accessories (shoes included), never feel the need to say “no” to faux. Quite frankly, if you look like you’re wearing half the cast of Sesame Street you’re probably doing something right. Find some fabulously fun furs on the catwalks of Tom Ford, Dolce and Gabbana, Marni, and Prada.
