By now we have the key pieces of our summer wardrobe firmly in place. But what is any outfit without the perfect shoe? Particularly in the summer, one needs the appropriate footwear to ensure comfort while walking around the city on long summer days whilst still guaranteeing a ten on the fashion scale because we will of course find ourselves patio-posing at various intervals along the way. Here’s a quick rundown of what to tie on your tootsies when you’re hitting the town (day or night).
Staying Close to the Ground
I am a flat shoe gal. Of course I enjoy a heel on the odd occasion but I am overall a fan of comfort, and a shoe sans heel is much more likely to provide this than a 5-inch stiletto. Indeed, one of my biggest joys of summer is being able to chuck on my Havaianas and flip-flop on my way, fuss free. There are, however, outfits and circumstances where Havaianas just won’t cut it.
A flat sandal is the perfect way to dress down a maxi-dress or add style to shorts and a T-shirt. The gladiator sandal has been the go-to option for a good few summers now, and it looks like it is here to stay for 2013. Additions of metallic trimmings and pops of colour ensure that they are kept right on-trend. For something more classic, a simple flat with an ankle fastening is comfortable, secure and still hits the chic note!

You’ve Got a Wedgie!
I love me some wedge! I know I said I’m not a heel fan, but the right wedge combines the comfort of a flat and the elevation of a heel. They are the perfect summer shoe as they provide just the right amount of polish to a summer dress but also amp up skinny jeans and short/T-shirt combos. There are so many variations of the wedge to choose from this season. More tame, neutral offerings are perfect for style and comfort at outdoor weddings or a family BBQ. Choose a higher version with a bright colour scheme for a night out or just because you’re feeling fabulous!
