Lucky us! Celebrity chef Susur Lee opens Luckee – his third Toronto restaurant – today, and it’s got the entire town in a tizzy. A few months ago, we were sad to say goodbye to Sen5es Restaurant in the SoHo Metropolitan Hotel, but soon rejoiced when we heard the rumor that Lee was opening a trendy dim sum Chinese restaurant in its place. Earlier this week it was confirmed that today was the big day that eager Torontonians would be able to enjoy some of Lee’s “Nouvelle Chinese” creations.
The 120-seat space, designed by Brenda Bent (Lee’s wife) and Karen Gable, is vibrant and funky yet keeps a very Chinese authentic feel. The food is elevated dim sum (served in the traditional cart) with a menu including classic Guangzhou, Hunan and Szechuan dishes. Of course we know that while he will keep his creations classic, we expect a Lee twist to be added. Luckee will be the first Toronto eatery to offer guests top of the line Chinese food in a hip and cool environment. Lee has even ensured a good wine list, which we can definitely appreciate.
Luckee is located at 328 Wellington Street West and will be open Tuesday to Sunday with dim sum brunch service on the weekends.
