Bradley Cooper, Matt Damon, January Jones, Eva Longoria, Vanessa Hudgens and Nicole Richie are just a handful of the fashion forward Hollywood stars that make up celebrity stylist Annie Jagger’s impressive client list. Before branching out on her own, Jagger got her start assisting world-renowned fashionista, Hollywood stylist and TV personality Rachel Zoe. Although she’s an LA girl, Jagger is now spending half of the year right here in Toronto, and we couldn’t be more psyched as to why: She’s opened a new boutique, Gilding the Lily, in the heart of the Distillery District. Jagger’s Toronto shop carries statement pieces and killer accessories curated by Jagger herself from some of her favourite designers around the world…
Tell us a bit about yourself. What should people know?
I am a Los Angeles-based celebrity stylist and have been styling for 14 years. I started as an intern at Nylon Magazine back in my NYC days, which led me to a position assisting Rachel Zoe. It was the best fashion education I could have asked for. I was with her for five years until I went out on my own. It’s been over a decade of adventures across the globe that led me here to Toronto to open my first boutique.

Your boutique, Gilding the Lily, carries curated items that are also favourite pieces of your celebrity clientele. Can you tell us about some of these items?
At Gilding the Lily, I pulled together an eclectic mix of some of my favourite jewelry/accessory designers that inspire me with new, innovative designs and unique pieces you won’t see anywhere else. They are favourites of my celebrity clients as well, who love to wear pieces that are beautiful and on the cutting edge of design.
You’ve worked with some big names in Hollywood. Who have been some of your favourites to work with and why?
It’s hard to pick a favourite client – it’s like asking a mom to pick her favorite child. I’m blessed with having a great mix of clients and I love them all; each of them inspires me in totally different ways. I’m inspired by Vanessa (Hudgens) for her free spirit, her love of music, and her ability to try new trends. I love working with Nicole (Scherzinger) because of her creativity, her attention to detail, and because she constantly makes me laugh. And then there is Matt (Damon) who is one of the most gracious, easygoing, big-hearted people I have met in the business. I could go on and on, but I am very grateful for the people I have around me.
Whose style do you find inspirational?
I get style inspiration from many different sources – from red carpet icons like Cate Blanchett to artists that push the envelope like Rihanna, to icons from the past like Bianca Jagger and Edie Sedgwick. I also love photography books about Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon, his Gypsy series in particular.
What style trends are you currently obsessed with?
My latest trend obsession is western style ankle boots. I have a pair by Anine Bing that I never take off. I bought them from Satine in LA.

What’s always in your beauty bag?
Dior Show mascara in black, Laura Mercier lipstick in Mod, and Aura Cacia aromatherapy body mist in relaxing lavender.
What’s your favourite restaurant?
My new favourite restaurant in LA is Hinoki & the Bird, but my consistent favourite is Pace in Laurel Canyon. In Toronto, I love Tabule in Leslieville and the new restaurant Cluny in the Distillery District.
What are three things you can’t live without?
My family, yoga, and fashion.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can we stay up-to-date with you?
