You know her as one of the hosts on Breakfast Television on City in Vancouver. What you might not know about about multi-talented Dawn Chubai is that she’s also a singer/songwriter. Her latest album Under the Covers is currently available at dawnchubai.com. Intrigued? We caught up with Chubai to find out more about her fascinating life and favourite spots in Vancouver.
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
Most people have known me for the last nine years as a host on Breakfast Television on City (Channel 13, Shaw HD 213). What people might be surprised to know is that I am also a singer/songwriter. In fact, it was performing music on morning shows (to promote gigs) in my hometown of Edmonton that kick-started my TV career!
Finish this sentence: I love Vancouver because…
We are a delicious city… inside and out! Not only do we have the world at our fingertips from a culinary perspective but we are deliciously diverse in things to do and see.

What are three things you simply cannot live without?
My sleep mask to cover my eyes at night, a corkscrew (yes, I enjoy my wine!) and my morning cup of coffee!
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
YEW at the Four Seasons is my go-to restaurant. Chef Ned Bell and his team keeps things creative and interesting – important since we’ve been known to go a couple of nights in a row! It is also consistant – so important when entertaining guests. Bar Manager Justin Taylor is known for his custom cocktails, but ½ price bottles of wine on Sundays and Mondays are a huge incentive. For an extra special experience, be sure to sit in Joel’s section – he has seen my husband and I though every special (and non-special) occasion for almost a decade… Tell him I sent ya!
What’s your favourite drink/cocktail and where do you go to get it?
My husband Brad actually makes the best ceasars (my favourite drink) but if I am looking for something really special – Shaun Layton at L’Abbatoir is the man to see. Sit at the bar, give him an idea of what you are in the mood for (sweet? Sour? Classic? ) and then let him create!
Your choice karaoke song is…
“Summer Lovin'” from Grease. Such a great group number!
