Social media has inspired a lot of things: fashion trends, overnight YouTube stars, and food crazes, just to name a few. It’s about time it inspired a talk show. Enter The Social, CTV’s new talk series which premieres on September 2nd. News anchor Melissa Grelo, celebrity gossip blogger Lainey Lui, relationship expert Cynthia Loyst, and entertainment reporter Traci Melchor will talk celebrities, pop culture and the daily news, and the viewers at home will be invited to participate in their conversation live, via emails, texts, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. We caught up with Melissa to find out a little bit more about The Social co-host, including what she loves most about Toronto.
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
I’m actually a country girl at heart. Being born and raised in the country on a horse farm and meeting clients from all walks of life has taught me that we are much more alike than we think and it has instilled in me a sense of curiosity about others and about life in general. I think that’s where my drive to ask questions was first born.

Finish this sentence: I love Toronto because…
…it’s ethnic diversity allowed people like my mother, an immigrant from the Philippines, and my father, an immigrant from Portugal with Brazilian heritage, to meet and have a full, thriving life and family.
What are three things you simply cannot live without?
Smartphone, smartphone, smartphone!
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
Gusto 101 on King St. West, Toronto. The restaurant was once a thriving auto body shop in the 1900s and has now been converted into an ultra-chic, yet approachable, and comfortable hot spot. And of course the food is phenomenal. Their version of the Caprese salad is a must-taste.
What’s your favourite drink/cocktail and where do you go to get it?
White sangria from Patria on King St. West is a favourite, but most often, I enjoy my Malibu and Diet Coke at home.
