You can catch Reshmi Nair – the stunning CBC News Now anchor – weekday afternoons on CBC, reporting the latest developments from the day’s newsmakers. So for a change of pace, we figured we’d let you catch her this AM on View the Vibe, reporting on a topic that’s much more personal: herself. Find out more about this blend of brains and beauty…
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
I’m a first generation Canadian – born and raised in Toronto, and spent my twenties in Vancouver. My dad came to Canada with the hopes of raising a daughter in a better situation than the one in India. That was even before I was born. He’s my best friend, and anything I do is in an effort to make him proud.
What drew you into pursuing a career in broadcast journalism?
I wanted to be a print journalist when I was growing up, but then I watched Murphy Brown and I just wanted to be her. I actually fell in love with radio and started the first few years of my career as a radio reporter in BC before switching to television.

What’s more difficult, field reporting or anchoring?
Field reporting. Anchoring is interesting because you’re supported by a team of hard working journalists. They’re writers, producers, shooters, editors, and reporters – all passionate about their work, and I present their final product. It’s still a tough job, I have to know the latest on several kinds of stories because you never know what’s going to break or develop… but being the news gatherer, in the thick of it, working at any hour of the day to get the story (and get it right!) is more difficult, in my opinion.
If you could aspire to be like one news anchor, who would it be?
Does Murphy Brown count? I hope so.
Finish this sentence: I love my city because…
…people from around the world live in Toronto, and we can all be ourselves.
What are three things you simply cannot live without?
Ugh. I’ll admit my phone. But then I’ll add love and laughter to balance it out.

What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
Hogtown Vegan because it’s delicious. I’m no longer vegan and I still go there for the Unchicken and Mac and Cheese.
What’s your favourite drink/cocktail and where do you go to get it?
The best drink I ever had was at West (in Vancouver). I had something with coffee liqueur, some sort of caramel flavoured liquor, a raw egg, and a black sea salt rim. Crazy good.
Who’s your favourite designer/brand and why do you sport their fashions?
Bench hoodies all the way. They make the best hoods.
Let’s get social for a mo’. How can people stay up-to-date with the latest news on Reshmi Nair?
I present the news, but I don’t like sharing my own news too much… I’m loving Twitter so @reshminair. I do my best to respond to tweets.
