When Samara Granofsky’s mother was going through chemotherapy, she wanted to wear non-toxic makeup that made her still feel beautiful. Unfortunately, there was nothing on the market. Although her mother sadly passed away, Granofsky was inspired to create Trust Fund Beauty – a luxurious, non-toxic, vegan makeup brand – in her mother’s memory. She used her trust fund from her mother to create the brand (hence the name), starting with nail polish, and the rest is history. We caught up Granofsky to find out more about this amazing cosmetics line, her best makeup advice, and what she gets up to in her free time…

I am a hard worker with an amazing team behind me. I am sarcastic and sassy, but I have a big heart.

What was your inspiration to start Trust Fund Beauty?
Pop culture and our celebrity-obsessed society. Also, my own life. I grew up around extremely wealthy people, and it’s a weird world to live in – you just have to laugh at it. My mother was my biggest inspiration; she is the reason I decided to start Trust Fund Beauty. When she was going through chemotherapy, she wanted to wear a non-toxic nail polish with cool names and trendy colours. At the time, no company existed – so years later, I took her want and our joint sense of humour to create Trust Fund Beauty.
What have been the biggest challenges and best rewards about what you do?
If I were in the business of giving away free product, I would be killing it right now! I give a ton of product away, and it’s a bit of a problem. I also take on too much and need to be better at getting to bed at a normal time instead of working from 7:30am to 1:00am. I love interacting with my followers on Instagram – especially when they discover how amazing our polish is, despite being non-toxic and vegan.
Do you have any advice for women who want to start their own company and may be apprehensive?
First, I don’t blame them. It’s scary, but it’s also one of the most amazing experiences. My advice to them is — just do it! However, they need to make sure it’s something that they are passionate about. If it’s something you love, then it’s not really work, and you will continuously impress yourself on a daily basis.
What’s currently in your beauty bag?
Trust Fund Beauty Polish in at least four different colours, Chanel clear lipstick, Bobbi Brown tinted moisturizer, and Nars bronzer. Also, since I am over-tired all of the time, I always make sure to bring my Giorgio Armani orange correcting pen with me!

What’s one of the best beauty tricks you know that every woman could benefit from knowing?
Get a great makeup artist to come to your home. Sorry, but it’s true!
What’s your biggest beauty indulgence?
My own product. I have a ridiculous amount of colours.

Alexander Wang.
What are three things you can’t live without?
My PR girls, Steph and Ashley (I LEGIT can’t live without them); coffee (thanks, Starbucks!); Wifi (I wouldn’t do well on a camping trip).

What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
Flyjin and Restaurant L’Orignal in Montreal. Both restaurants have an amazing vibe and delicious food, and I love the Old Port.
