On Friday, June 21st, the 5th Annual All-Star Gala in support of SickKids commenced. Over 1,250 professional athletes, SickKids supporters and young professionals gathered at the Toronto Event Centre to raise money for SickKids. The event was hosted by the voice of the Raptors, Jack Armstrong, who also performed a special rendition of “My Way” by Frank Sinatra at midnight.
This was an event to raise money, awareness, share stories and change lives. Just over $100,000 was raised for Dr. Seeds research project on congenital heart disease for the Hospital of Sick Children. There was a luxury silent auction and raffle opportunities for vacation prizes.
During the evening, Liam Bleach took the stage to share his inspiring story of overcoming a congenital heart defect. The attendees watched his life play out on the big screens as he had multiple heart surgeries before he was 3. Liam Bleach is now a 9-year-old SickKids patient ambassador. At the event, he and his family were gifted with an all-expenses-paid trip to Mexico, generously given by redtag.ca and Palace Resorts.
