Shopping and supporting local has always been important, but this year and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s been more crucial than ever. So many of our favourite stores, restaurants, salons, and businesses have sadly shuttered this year and while times are tight for all of us, it’s our duty to help where we can. One way to help is by supporting local brands when they launch new products. It’s just been announced that local Toronto brand ai Toronto Seoul is teaming up with legendary Canadian media personality Tanya Kim for a collab that suits not only us humans, but our fur babies too.
“Being an animal advocate, I’ve always dreamt of marrying my passion for dogs with my love for fashion (and function!), said Tanya in a release. “It’s been an absolute dream bringing this product to life and co-designing The Mabel alongside the ai Toronto Seoul team. Working with a female-founded, BIPOC-owned business to help amplify their brand through this collaboration has been been the cherry on top, added Kim.

The collab features a hands-free vegan leather bag and compatible dog leash and it’s called The Mabel, named after Tanya’s beloved rescue dog. To create the perfect leash, ai Toronto Seoul and Tanya partnered with local, family-run brand Highland Hounds and it was a match made.
The Mabel can be worn as either a belt-bag or a crossbody bag and it’s made with the softest and highest-quality vegan leather in a gorgeous caramel shade. It has gold hardware that adds a luxe vibe that we’re all into and it’s even waterproof. Plus, it’s crazy durable and has breaking strength of up to 1000 pounds so no matter how strong your pupper is, this baby has you covered.
Both Kim and the founders of ai Toronto Seoul are Korean-Canadian and they share the same core cruelty-free fashion values. In a release, ai Toronto Seoul co-founder Hannah Kim said, “As a brand founded by Korean-Canadian women, we felt an instant connection to Tanya and it quickly became apparent that we shared a core set of values; including a commitment to cruelty-free fashion, animal welfare and advocacy.”
The Mabel will retail for $175 and be available as of April 11 which also happens to be National Pet Day.
