On June 7th, The Auld Spot Pub on College Street officially became The Hogtown Pub & Oysters, a Toronto gastropub for the “gourmand” – and it is truly that. Hogtown is a client of View the Vibe, so one might think I am biased… but no, I am not. At View the Vibe, we only talk about good places – if they’re no good, we keep our mouth shut. 🙂 We were lucky enough to sample some of their new menu items a few weeks before the official opening and when asked if we could help with their official VIP/media opening party, we jumped at it because we were confident in who they are and what they are doing.
Darryl Brown is one of the most charming restaurateurs I’ve come across. He is also very realistic about who The Hogtown Pub & Oysters is as a brand. They offer a fun, casual vibe with friendly service, delicious food, in a cozy pub environment – don’t expect fine dining airs in this place! Darryl is also the type of guy that let’s people do what they’re good at and trusts them fully. Hence Chef Josh Dalton, his chef and partner offering up fun yet surprising food at the June 7th opening party. Cherry & Brie Quesadillas with Foie Gras Torchon, Thai Scotch Egg with Sesame Gribiche, Pulled Pork, Caramelized Onions & 5-yr old Cheddar Dumplings with Smokey BBQ sauce – I mean, is your mouth watering yet? The food at the party was fantastic and the vibe was even better – everyone that attended had a blast and the Hogtown servers were hard working, happy and awesome. It was truly a night that will be remembered!
The Hogtown Pub & Oysters is on our radar and if it’s not on yours, it should be. Here is a vlog of the VIP/Media opening night party – watch all these foodies devour the food and enjoy Bourbon Manhattans on June 7th, 2012!
