When you’re an international music sensation, pretty much everything’s within your reach. Including, it would seem, getting your request approved for an entire city to power up its internet. Yep, it’s no exaggeration, because that’s exactly what Pickering did, wherein they improved their internet service for Drake. And all because the rapper had posted a complaint about it two years ago.
Pickering Amps Up Internet Service For Drake
Although Drake had made the request years ago, the city had clearly taken note. When his Instagram story had initially gone viral, there were unsurprisingly plenty of internet service providers that wanted the partnership with the city to boost the Wifi.
“Can the mayor of Pickering set up some stronger wifi towers, so my producer Boi1da can be able to send me all his newest beats??” The Instagram post previously said. “Trying to cook up. Thanks.”

And Bell Canada turned out to be the company to secure the win, with different rural areas of Pickering now having easy access to high-speed internet. Drake’s producer, Matt Samuels aka Boi1da, also applauded the move. “I want to thank Mayor Ryan, the City of Pickering, and of course Bell Canada for providing this new high-speed internet connection,” Samuels said, according to a statement in Global News.
The Mayor of Pickering also addressed Drake and his producer for shining a light on the internet issue in the city.
Thank you Councillor McKelvie. Credit to Drake and @Boi1da for bringing our connectivity issues to the forefront. A huge thank you to Bell Canada for making this major broadband investment. And Kudos to @CityofPickering staff who are facilitating the approvals and construction. https://t.co/3WFnHXndzx
