I think we can all agree that there are plenty of reasons Toronto is such a great city. From the bustling downtown core to the diversity, entertainment scene and great restaurants, there’s a lot to love. However, I don’t think anything can beat the sense of community and signs of togetherness the city exemplifies through collective action. In a recent post online, a Leslieville restaurant was recognized for offering pre-paid meals to those who are hungry but can’t afford to purchase a meal themselves. Not only is this initiative very fitting due to the current economic landscape of the country, but it is also the perfect time as the holiday’s approach and people are looking for ways to give back.
Samaira’s Kitchen
In a recent video posted on the Instagram account @6ixdriptv and @toronto_only, a woman details her experience walking along Queen Street East in Leslieville and stumbling upon an amazing initiative launched by Samaira’s Kitchen. She says, “I was just walking in Leslieville and there’s this restaurant called Samairas’s and I couldn’t help but notice this,” she then proceeds to show us two signs on the window followed by an overwhelming number of receipts taped to the windows.
The signs read: “If you’re hungry and have no money, these meals have been paid for in advance. Give a server a ticket and they will have the kitchen prepare your meal.” Comments on the post share their love for the city, how the initiative put a smile on their face and how people have gone to the restaurant to show their support.
