TIFF 2015 gets underway in just a few short days. Now that you’ve got your outfits all sorted (hopefully), it’s time to turn your attention to the rest of your look—we’re talking skincare, beauty and hair. Make no mistake: it will be hectic, but the last thing you want to worry about is makeup meltdown, flat hair, or dull, blotchy skin. Here’s Vv Magazine‘s guide to getting primped and ready for your close-up.
SKINCARE
Oxygen Facials
Nothing perks and plumps up your features quite like an oxygen facial. Completely safe, suitable for all skin types, and requiring no prep or recovery time, this ingenious treatment is a long-time favourite of brides and Hollywood celebs—it promises to instantly rejuvenate the appearance of your skin, hydrate like nobody’s business, and prepare your skin for the onslaught of TIFF joy (read: imbibing, flashbulbs, and counting sleeps until your favourite movie premieres). Most Toronto spas carry their own take on the service, but try the new OxyGeneo 3-in-1 treatment which begins with microdermabrasion, allowing the facial’s benefits to penetrate deeper into the dermis. The purported benefits read like a Christmas wish list: plumping, wrinkle reduction, collagen boost, etc.
At Home
At the end of the summer, nothing beats some solid exfoliation and targeted treatments to undo the sins of sun worship. Body Blitz’ Facial Bar is great for in-and-out facials, but you can bring home the benefits with their Radiance Serum ($38) in which licorice root and emblica extract unite in a natural dark spot fighter. For some extra brightening action, try Boscia’s Bright White Mask, with its blend of peptides, sea fern algae, and pro-vitamin C—it also has a nice mattifying effect. If you’re looking for hydration (and also angling to post a terrifying sheet mask selfie to Instagram), consider the newly-released sulfate, paraben and phthalate-free Guerlain Super-Aqua Mask.

LASHES AND BROWS
For ladies needing a quick brow pick-me-up, schedule yourself at Caryl Baker Visage in Yorkville. The HD Brow package ($30) includes clean-up and shaping (complete with an honest heart-to-heart about just what you’ve been doing to your brows), tinting, and brow make-up application in record time. If you’ve been lusting after the full brow look, inquire about their Brow Extender, which adds natural fibres to your brows for a look that’s truly not for the faint of brow. For those hawk-eyed gals who notice every stray hair out of place, try Eye Love Beauty Bar where tweezers run rampant to shape your perfect brow ($30) or save time by stashing your eyelash curler in favour of a lash perm ($70) that’ll keep your peepers looking fresh for 3 months.
HAIR
We wouldn’t necessarily recommend a full on colour change or major cut so close to TIFF, and lucky for you, natural roots are creeping back into fashion. However, if you wake up one morning with a kinky white hair (or ten) sullying your otherwise flawless colour job, Oribe’s Airbrush Root Touch-Up Spray is your ticket (it feels lighter than Rita Hazan’s tried and true root concealer). And speaking of Oribe: a longtime cult favourite, the colour-safe Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray fully deserves all the praise and awards it’s received—carry a mini in your purse for late-night touch-ups and relish that gorgeous scent. Pair with Pureology’s dry conditioner for root-to-end polish. Both Holt Renfrew Bloor and Yorkville’s newly opened Salon Davachi (with services including cuts, colour, threading, as well as laser hair removal, Botox and dermal fillers) carry a full range of Oribe products.
TIME SAVERS
Truthfully, there’s not much that can beat a proper diet, exercise, hydration (whatever, science, we still think 8 glasses are de rigueur), and your fill of shut-eye for keeping your skin in tip top shape. Oh, and we have to add: taking your makeup off every night before bed! If you’re pressed for time, try Me from MaxEffects Naturals’ makeup remover and toner ($15.99 for 400ml, available online) for quick, soothing makeup changes (or at the end of a long night—remember, shut-eye) with no rinsing required.
If you’re looking to keep your makeup from fading throughout the day, nothing beats a light all-over dusting of translucent powder and a few spritzes of a makeup setting spray, such as Urban Decay’s All-Nighter or MAC’s Prep and Prime spray.
