Chardonnay: The Queen of Grapes
Finding your perfect style of Chardonnay is like trying to find the perfect pair of jeans. Admit it, we’ve all had a hard time looking for that perfect style that fits just right. Shopping for jeans is quite a nightmare too, I mean every store sells them, so where do you even start. Similarly no matter what your fashion sense or style, It’s impossible to hate jeans, we all love them and they are a staple part of our wardrobe. Really, it’s all about finding that perfect fit, that perfect flare, and the perfect style for you.
I call Chardonnay the ‘Queen of Grapes’ for a few good reasons. Number one, she is loved and adored all over the world. Number two, it is the worlds most planted white grape. Number three, she reigns with sommeliers, wine writers and enthusiasts as one of the most revered, respected and expensive white wines in the world.
Her heart and soul lies in Burgundy, France and Chardonnay is an important component of many sparkling wines around the world, including Champagne, France, Franciacorta, Italy (if you don’t know what Franciacorta is, it’s italy’s answer to traditionally made sparkling wine) and many awesome wines made right here in Ontario.

Due to the fact that Chardonnay is a very versatile grape, this can make shopping for a certain style quite challenging – much like shopping for a pair of jeans. It also means that you have to be well versed in regions, winemaking styles, taste profiles and also figure out your own style of chardonnay that pleases your palate the most.
Still table Chardonnay wine can range from crisp, dry, refreshing and completely unoaked to barrel fermented to unfiltered and natural to sparkling and delicious. So, as you can see, there is a very wide range of styles and taste profiles that it takes patience and determination to find a style that fits you. Hence, my first paragraph comparison. Hard to shop for, challenging to try on yet a perfect fit once that ideal bottle is found.
This Thursday is #ChardonnayDay across the planet so grab a bottle of Chardonnay and start experimenting to find your perfect fit!
