All it takes is one unseasonably warm May weekend to make your current hairstyle feel more like a Medieval form of religious penitence than it does an actual style. Whether you’ve got naturally straight locks or gravity-defying curls, there’s a summer cut that will save you time and upkeep, with the added bonus of lightening up your electricity bill because you won’t be needing that heavy-duty blow dryer anymore. Here are our top summer 2013 hairstyles for women…
The Chop
Supermodel Karlie Kloss pulled a Linda Evangelista by chopping off seven inches of her enviable locks last year with the help of famed hairstylist Garren Defazio. Karlie’s ’60s-inspired above-the-shoulders cut, complete with long bangs, has already been labelled the “cut of the moment” by Vogue. Dafizio designed the hairstyle, the one-length cut with a bit of layering in the front, as a wash-and-go ‘do that looks best when it’s bed-head sexy with a bit of natural wave. “The Karlie” or “The Chop” as it’s already known is the 21st century answer to “the Rachel” but with far less upkeep. It’s tomboyishly hot but with just enough length that you can still rock an updo or a ponytail.
The Pixie Cut
Thank Miley Cyrus and Charlize Theron if you must, but it’s never been more sexy to go super short… close-crop pixie short. The cut isn’t for everyone, but if you’ve got an oval shaped face, and you can truly convince yourself that sporting the odd hairband is all you ever need to feel dressed up, then dare to go super short.

The Lob
If you have naturally straight hair, forget about volume this summer and get a cut that works your hair’s most under-rated feature: its smooth, flat texture. Seriously. The frizz-prone set are secretly seething with jealousy over your seemingly humidity resistant locks, so opt for a cut that plays up your hair’s natural inclination to stay vertical. “The lob,” which gets its name from “the long bob,” is an asymmetrical cut that’s parted on the side for an edgy yet chic look that’s a little bit runway, a little bit rock n’ roll.
The Tousled Knot
If you’ve got medium to long hair, nothing feels better than getting your mane off the back of your neck on a hot day. While top knots have been huge on runways and red carpets this year, we’re all about tousled knots tied low for the summer months for a glam “model off-duty” look. To get the look, spray your hair with salt water to give it texture and then opt for a deep side part, leaving a few strands hanging out for added bed-head sexiness before tying your hair in a low ponytail at the nape of your neck. Then, grab sections from the ponytail and twist them in different directions before securing your look in place with bobby pins and then loosening a few random sections with your fingers. You want to look like you didn’t spend the night in your own bed. Nobody has to know that you stayed in last night watching back-to-back episodes of Dance Moms.
