With the continuing increase of COVID-19 cases, it’s safe to say that we might all be social distancing in the near future. While we’re each doing our best to flatten the curve, it doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun, while being safe of course. This has led to the rise of the city’s first social distance food market, El Mercado.
I mean, we love take-out and delivery, but taking in some sun rays lately while picking up delicious eats sounds epic! This pop-up spot has teamed up with local vendors to serve customers with a variety of cool and delicious food items. Located at Bario Patio on 884 Queen St. East, safety is definitely the market’s top priority. With all employees wearing face shields, it is also mandatory for visitors to wear a face mask upon entry. You have the option of bringing your own, or buying one at the entrance for $2.

Social distance is the name of the game. There is a limit on how many people are allowed in the market at once, and each person moves in one direct line through the space. Foods are prepared to be on-the-go, with no dine-in space allocated. There are numerous sanitation stations spread out across the market and no cash payments are allowed.
The menu is extensive with dishes that cater to everyone’s taste. There is even an area for fresh, essential produce! The rotating menu is vegetarian friendly as well, with plenty of options. Some of the unique creations include pickle lemonades, fried candy bars, avocado soft serve, fish-eye tacos, beer and more.
