Get ready for a gravy-soaked, cheese-curd-covered spectacle! Toronto is about to host the ultimate test of poutine love this weekend as brave souls from around the world descend upon the city to compete in the 2024 World Poutine Eating Championship. With mountains of fries, rich gravy, and squeaky cheese curds on the line, this competition is sure to be a mouthwatering affair.
Smoke-A-Palooza
The poutine-themed festival is being held by Smoke’s Poutinerie. Founded in 2008, the restaurant chain’s first location was opened in The 6ix. The expansion happened quite quickly since then, with now several locations all across the country.
Smoke-A-Palooza is set to feature everything from music, live entertainment, and of course lots of poutine. In fact, one of the much awaited attractions is the World Poutine Eating Championship (WPEC). The competition will bring together competitive eaters from around the globe to test their poutine-eating skills.

Among those in attendance will include Miki Sudo, the world’s number one ranked female eater. She had put her skills to the test earlier this year at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest female division. The result? Eating 51 hotdogs in a matter of just 10 minutes!
Patrick Bertoletti (ranked number two), Geoffrey Esper (ranked number three), and others will also be participating in the championship. WPEC is taking place on August 10 at 3:30pm at Yonge-Dundas Square.
Another feature of the event is the Ryan Smolkin Memorial CEO Challenge in Support of We Care. This will be a two-minute Poutine Eating Competition for executives from corporate Canada. Those participating will compete to raise funds for disabled children so that they can be sent to fully accessible summer camps.
So if you’re a lover of poutine, then you know what to include in your upcoming weekend plans. The names of previous champions can be found on the website.
