Summer is here once again, which can only mean one thing in Toronto: Where’s the patio party?! With so many options and what always feels like so little time, here’s just a small fraction of some definite noteworthy patios to check out this summer season…

Earls Kitchen and Bar opened early last year, bringing West Coast casual right to central Toronto. Earls is the perfect place to unwind after a hard day’s work, offering daily drink specials among an already extensive drink list. It’s sure to please everyone from the beer connoisseurs to the masters of martinis. My personal favorite is Monday’s pitchers of sangria for $19 and $5 margaritas. Its enclosed patio gives patrons the feel of a private backyard making them forget they’re in the financial district.
Allen’s on the Danforth
Allen’s Restaurant on the Danforth is a great little gem of a restaurant that’s filled with history, food and drinks. When you walk out to the patio for a split second, you think you’ve walked out to someone’s backyard. It’s a great spot to enjoy a nice quiet dinner without worrying about any city distractions. Known for stellar burgers that can be paired perfectly with their extensive beer selections, Allen’s on the Danforth is the perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon soaking up the sunshine on the backyard patio.
The Drake Hotel Sky Yard
The Sky Yard is a great addition to The Drake Hotel, keeping the hotel trendy from top to bottom. Whether you’re coming to be seen or to relax after a rough week, Sky Bar is the perfect spot. With the added bonus of a fire pit in the backyard, you can just sit back and gaze at the stars while sipping on your “cucumber smash” or one of their many other custom cocktails. Sky Yard is a great city escape without ever leaving the city.
Playa Cabana
A Mexican restaurant that features local ingredients and food items that are prepared fresh daily? Yes, please! Playa Cabana has an authentic Mexican beach house feel that puts everybody in the fiesta mood. Featuring a street side patio where passersby can enviously watch you devour Playa Cabana’s made-to-order guacamole, and a back covered patio where the margaritas are always free-flowing, Playa Cabana will have you shouting “Ole!”

Town Crier Pub
A great spot in the entertainment district, perfect for the premier beer experts as well as those who are new and unfamiliar to the hops. The Town Crier Pub and Halfway Beer House offers 50 beers on tap and has a wide selection of imported brews. The patio is great to spend a nice summer’s night snacking on some grilled short beef ribs or one of the Belgian herb beer flatbreads accompanied with your favourite pint.
Bar Wellington
You can’t help but notice the gorgeous Victorian house on the corner of Wellington and Portland that is Bar Wellington. It provides a fun casual environment, with a wide variety of drinks and a food menu that’s sure to please all. A highly recommended spot for after work drinks with friends while catching some rays on the rooftop patio, along with an ice cold pitcher of one of the many beers they offer on tap and some crispy sweet potato fries to nibble on. A delightful way to spend a sweet summer’s eve!
