The long weekend is finally here and it’s time for us to get out and have some fun! We tend to head out of town to Seattle or Victoria any chance we get, but this weekend, we’re staying close to home.
If you haven’t already figured out what you’re going to do, we’ve got a few ideas. Here are the best things to do in Vancouver this Victoria Day Weekend…
TOTEM by Cirque du Soleil
There’s just something magical about a Cirque du Soleil show, and we always eagerly await its arrival in Vancouver. From now until July 6th, visit TOTEM under the Big Top at Concord Pacific Place. This spectacular show traces the fascinating journey of the human species from its original amphibian state to its ultimate desire to fly. The characters evolve on a stage evoking a giant turtle – the symbol of origin for many ancient civilizations.

Richmond Night Market
Every year thousands of locals and visitors head to the Lower Mainland for the Richmond Night Market (May 16th to October 13th). This uber-popular Asian-style bazaar features 250 merchandise booths, 80 food vendors serving delicious street food and desserts, and diverse family-friendly entertainment. Note: Save your sanity and refrain from driving to this busy spot. Take the SkyTrain to the Bridgeport Station – it’s only a 6-minute walk to the market from there.
Sea to Sky Gondola
If the weather is favourable this weekend, jump in the car and head up to Squamish where the brand new Sea to Sky Gondola has just opened. The impressive ten-minute gondola ride to 885m above sea level provides sweeping views of the Howe Sound Fjord and surrounding mountains. Once up at the top, enjoy breathtaking sights from the three viewing platforms, walk across the approximately 100-metre long Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge (a must do), and grab a bite to eat or a beer at the Summit Lodge.
Vancouver Foodie Tours
Here’s something that most locals have not experienced but really should: The Granville Island Market Tour. This engaging guided tour explores Vancouver’s much loved landmark, Granville Island, and its Public Market. For two fun-filled hours, you’ll nibble on fresh fare that will titillate your tastebuds, and hear the intriguing stories, culture, and history behind the market and its delectable creations.

Miniature Train at Stanley Park
Walking through beautiful Stanley Park is always high on our list of things to do on the weekend. Another relaxing way to explore the park is to hop on the adorable miniature train. As the mini replica of the Canadian Pacific Railway #374 steam engine – famous for pulling Canada’s first transcontinental passenger train into Vancouver in the late 1880s – winds along the 2-km of track, you’ll travel over trestles and through tunnels on your journey through the forest.
Cloverdale Rodeo
Yeehaw! All of you closet cowboys and cowgirls can openly kick up your heels at the 68th annual Cloverdale Rodeo and 126th Country Fair (May 16th to 19th). Fun for the whole family, enjoy the unique blend of rodeo action, the Lumberjack Show, Rib Fest and BBQ competition, and so much more.
