Tantalize your taste buds and don’t miss the first ever Curry Cup to benefit the Chefs’ Table Society of BC. Pitting a collection of savvy chefs against each other from some of Vancouver’s top restaurants, the inaugural Curry Cup aims to shine a culinary spotlight on this East Asian dish.
The event takes place at Heritage Hall (3102 Main Street) and is to be emceed by YVR’s man-about-town, Fred Lee, as he guides the sizzling competition along. We say this because it’s a tough collection of judges at the table: Joie Alvaro Kent (restaurant award winner and food writer); Angus An (chef/owner of Maenam and Longtail); Vij’s wine and operations director, Mike Bernardo; Jeff Hamada (Japanese Canadian artist/creator of Booooooom); and finally, Mijune Pak (Follow Me Foodie).

So just who will be heating up the kitchen competition? We’re excited to check out what Forage Restaurant’s Chris Whittaker comes up with. Dino Renaerts (Aura at Nita Lake Lodge) is also one to watch. Taryn Wa (Savoury Chef Catering) ought to dish out a spicy surprise; as will The Acorn with Chef Brian Skinner, Avin Pillay of The Blackbird Public House & Oyster Bar, Homer St. Cafe & Bar’s Tret Jordan, and Joachim Hayward of Campagnolo ROMA. Rounding out the competition is Hamid Salimian of NEXTJEN Gluten-Free. Now that’s a lot of talent worth testing out.
The curry competition gets rolling from 6:30pm until 9:30pm, and tickets are only $59 (that gets you a healthy taste of eight unique international curries highlighting diverse flavours from around the world served by the competing chefs). To sweeten the deal, taste each dish alongside wines from a selection of BC vineyards such as Mt. Boucherie, Dirty Laundry, and more.
Not into vino? No problem: There will be craft beer available form local breweries such as R&B Brewing Co. and Steamworks Brewery, as well as non-alcoholic creations from celebrity mixologist Lauren Mote and Bittered Sling Extracts.
