Don’t put your mallets away just yet… summer is still ripe for the party picking! And just in time to celebrate the height of the season is this weekend’s inaugural Garden Party and Croquet Classic at the VanDusen Botanical Gardens in support of Backpack Buddies.
Gear up in your best croquet-appropriate attire for some frivolous fun-and-frolic for this Saturday afternoon’s event. Groups of four can sign up for the highlight of the event: The Garden Party’s Croquet Classic, one of the most refined outdoor summer sports that will see skill and refined sportsmanship come head to head with lively competition, plenty of prizes, and the opportunity to mingle at one of the city’s most stunning settings amongst great company.

The Garden Party will kick off with a twist on the traditional High Tea at Noon. Featuring delectable bites courtesy Cocktails & Canapes, party guests will be well fed on traditional teatime fare served alongside specially prepared hors d’oeuvres and plenty of champagne (don’t you worry about that!).
Expect to see Absolut craft vodka cocktails aplenty thanks to brand ambassador Jacob Sweetapple who will be on hand mixing up a storm. Those craving a cold one will find it courtesy of Stella Artois and Perrier Jouet Champagne; both brands will keep your thirst at bay while you take in the ongoing interactive, live performance art installations.
And the best part of this event, in our books, is it’s all for a great cause. Vancouver’s much-loved Backpack Buddies, run by the Community First Foundation, will garner charitable proceeds from The Garden Party. Backpack Buddies delivers backpacks of food to the most vulnerable children in the city’s inner city schools and helps engage youth in community.
