After a sobering summer break, The Settlement Building’s Vancouver Urban Winery is back for its fourth series of wine-soaked Sunday School seminars (from 3pm until 5pm) and we’ll be front and centre in class.
The Fall/Winter ‘semester’ of drinking in school starts next weekend and features “BC vs. the World: Round 4” with a tasty selection of the latest local offerings.
You’ll get educated by wine pros too, with sommeliers David Stansfield and Lisa Cook leading you through the interactive Sunday School.

When we inquired as to what exactly students can expect to gain from these tutored tastings, Cook shared that “basically, these classes are just great excuses for us to get together with a room full of people who like drinking — and talking about drinking — as much as we do. And if we can pass on some useful knowledge at the same time, even better.” Sounds good to us.
New this year, Sunday School at the Settlement Building is geared up to introduce a few format changes, with seminars now taking place in the afternoon. This pretty much guarantees it’ll be a #SundayFunday when you can spill out of class with a buzz and land right in their Belgard Kitchen for post-session snacks and Postmark Brewing beers.
Classes will be hosted in the back of the Settlement Building amidst beer tanks and aged wine barrels too – talk about setting the appropriate stage.

If you can’t make it to class on the 26th, no worries; they’ll have several additional ones for you to participate in such as November 16 and the “Sommelier Smackdown IV: the Grudge Match,” and one on December 14 – “The Price Is Wrong!”
Here’s what you get: $40 scores you a spot at the table. Each seminar will feature multiple flights of wine loosely structured around a set theme and served blind (tip: ditch the cologne and heavy perfume for this one, folks). Small seminar sizes guarantee you get the most bang for your buck – but also guarantee they’ll sell out, so don’t sit on the fence for too long. Tickets are available online through Eventbrite or directly from Belgard Kitchen.
