The Vancouver International Tequila Expo (VITE) is back this weekend and is definitely one you don’t want to miss. It’s Western Canada’s largest festival dedicated entirely to one of our favourite spirits (which also happens to be Mexico’s number one export spirit to boot with well over $24 million in sales in 2012 alone).
This year’s VITE – with the help of the Consulate General of Mexico, ProMexico, Mexico Tourism Board, and the BC Hospitality Foundation as the charity partner – will fuel Vancouverites’ thirst for tequila even more than before with a main event taking place at the Grand Tasting Hall (where the winner of the cocktail competition will be announced).

Also taking place will be an afternoon trade tasting and various seminars held during Vancouver Agave Week (on now until May 31st). Head down to VITE for tequila tastings, master classes, and grab tickets to pairing dinners at venues around Vancouver centred around tequila and other agave spirits.
On our list to attend: the Jose Cuervo Tequila Industry Seminar with Sonia Espinola; Tequila 101; or, the Hot Date In Jalisco tequila dinner at the Fairmont Pacific Rim this Friday night (tickets are $150 per person).
If you go, try to score tickets to the Tequila Pre-Party at our favourite go-to hot spot for authentic Mexican bites, La Mezcaleria. Choose from a menu of six different Fidencio Mezcal and Uno Mas Tequila cocktails crafted by Lauren Mote and Arthur Wynne (of UVA Wine Bar), most featuring locally produced Bittered Sling bitters.

VITE takes place at the Vancouver Hyatt Regency Hotel just in time for margarita-mixing season when tequila sales increase and tequila aficionados, cocktail imbibers, and high-end spirits consumers are on the hunt for the next big brand.
