These days, watches aren’t just to for telling the time. They are now works of wearable art; multi-purpose bijoux for your wrist. One brand that really has been piquing our time-telling interest is the ultra-luxurious Swiss wristwatch company RADO.
Known for pioneering the use of scratch resistant materials in the production of their fine watches, RADO has, year after year, launched some fabulously innovative designs. We were invited to the Rosewood Hotel Georgia to meet with RADO Executive Michèle Scheidegger and experience the brand’s stunning 2014 timepiece collection for men and women.
We learned that since the mid 80s, high-tech ceramic has played a pivotal role in RADO watches. In addition to these watches being scratch resistant, they are also really lightweight, comfortable (adjusts to body temperature!), and hypo-allergenic. We simply adore ceramic watches – they are just so stylish!

One piece of wrist candy that had us all bug-eyed was the glitzy Esenza Ceramic Touch Fibonacci, embellished with 534 blue sapphires. Yes, the gemstones spoke to us, but so did the patented ceramic “touch technology.” With the gentle touch and sweep of a finger along the side of the ceramic case – left for hours and right for minutes – time can be made to fly by or can be turned back in a single stroke. Pretty cool, right?
The other watch that was quickly added to our wish list was the HyperChrome Ceramic Touch Dual Timer in a gorgeous grey ceramic (available in November). This sassy, slim, and streamlined timepiece features the unique RADO monobloc case construction, a one-piece component that’s lightweight and super durable – unlike many ceramic cases that have metal underneath and multiple pieces. It also uses the brand’s smart touch technology. Though this HyperChrome piece may have been designed for a dude, we want it for ourselves!
Thanks RADO for introducing us to the “accessible luxury” ceramic watch world!
