We’re all about anything and everything culinary (just in case you didn’t know that already). So when we received a coveted invitation to attend this year’s 25th Annual Vancouver Magazine Restaurant Awards party at the Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel we cleared our agenda for the day.
Known as one of the largest (and best) restaurant-related events in Vancouver, we love the fact that it gathers so much culinary talent in one space, is fully loaded with energy, and people just geared up for a long day of socializing and celebrating… egos aside. (Click here to view gallery.)
With a record number of attendees at this year’s awards (we heard somewhere close to 900 people showed up), the reception was packed upon our arrival. For many industry insiders, it’s the perfect time to get a little dolled up and spend the afternoon doing a little or a lot of mingling with new and old friends, media, and up-and-coming chefs and owners.

Plenty of booze definitely helps make conversations flow (thank you Haywire Winery and Crystal Head Vodka!) and plenty of tasty bites on hand more than satiated appetites – this is definitely one event you skip a meal for. We sampled everything from caviar to crème fraîche, chocolates (Temper Pastry) to cheese (Avalon Dairy), and everything in between… as you’ll see from our photos snapped.
It was reminiscent to herding cats trying to get everyone seated when awards time came – but we found a few just in time and happily cheered on as names were announced and recognition was doled out to the hundreds of restaurant owners and supporting staff present.
With about 50 different categories (about a dozen of which were new this year) the awards presentation flew by smoothly, and before long it was time to let the party continue. And it did, until we rolled home at 8 o’clock last night. All in the name of work, right?
