After a rather soggy start to the workweek, things were looking dismal indeed. With the weekend now upon us, we’re stoked to see a forecast that pretty much begs us to get outside and explore our fine Vancouver city. Believe us when we say there are definitely plenty of options on the agenda…
Check out the Rio Theatre’s special screening of Stanley Kubrik’s mind-bending classic A Clockwork Orange tonight. We love the fact that the theatre is itself pretty much the perfect throwback setting for the genre of this flick – couple that with bar service and you’ve got a winner. Dress up in crazy character and you’ll get $2 off admission.

Head over to the recently opened Faubourg Bakery and Café in West Vancouver for a taste of Paris – right in our west coast backyard. They’re part of an extensive Park Royal expansion that we talked about yesterday. With a menu featuring plenty of tasty reasons to build up your appetite, be sure to grab a stash of macarons, madeleines and other baked offerings.
Speaking of baking, stock up on even more for the week ahead and check out The Baker’s Market on Sunday. This community gathering is always full of sweet surprises as professional bakers and hobby chefs present their goods for sale. Grab fresh bread, muffins, chocolates, cupcakes and more all under one roof at the Moberly Arts & Cultural Centre.
Robson Square Ice Rink is still open daily (until the end of February) with free access to skating. Rent a pair for $4 and enjoy a taste of the season. Warm up with a hot chocolate at the nearby concession stand.

Need another reason to get, or stay, outdoors this weekend? Well, the new snowfall that nearby Whistler/Blackcomb has received is definitely a contender. Head up this weekend and hit the hills before heading back to base for some quality Olympic-style apres eats. Catch Sochi action and hang out for an extra-special ‘Fire & Ice’ closing ceremony celebration set to take place on Sunday.
Taking over BC Place Stadium for the duration of the weekend is the BC Home + Garden Show. It’s a massive showcase of all things design-inspired featuring more than 400 different vendors and distributors. Lest we forget to mention the numerous stages where you can take in seminars and catch design pros and celebrities dole out stylish advice for the home. Make your way around and score plenty of free tips, samples and ideas.
Get in on the charitable spirit and head out to St. James Hall this weekend in support of Vancouver Peace Choir’s 2nd Annual Gala: Sparkling Song. It’s the perfect excuse to get dolled-up for a night of fancy-fun. This fundraiser includes a silent auction, live entertainment, wine, food and music courtesy of four distinguished Canadian composers.
