We’re well into December now, and there’s no denying that the holidays are all but here. This weekend’s happenings around-town certainly prove that. Read on and check out all the events Vv Magazine’s Danica Jeffery thinks you need to have on your radar.
Rogers Santa Claus Parade
Nothing says Christmas like the Rogers Santa Claus Parade. One of Vancouver’s largest holiday events of the year, the parade is back and bigger than ever with more than 65 different festive floats making their way through the city along with 3500 participants. New this year (and another reason to check it out) is the Coast Capital Savings Christmas Square that’ll be decked out with holiday treats (gingerbread decorating, carolers, the works, and more). The parade starts at 1pm.

A Twisted Christmas Carol
Take note that there are a few holiday-themed plays worth checking out this weekend too. We recommend catching A Twisted Christmas Carol at Granville Island’s Revue Stage Theatre. It’s a laugh-out-loud twist on the Dickens’ classic that you won’t want to miss. Characters are fueled by audience interactions, resulting in hilarious improv situations that keep the laughs coming.
The Santaland Diaries
The Santaland Diaries is also a great one to watch and features a decidedly sarcastic take on the holiday season (courtesy of writer David Sedaris). It’ll take you into the mind of a writer who succumbs to employment as one of Santa’s elves at a department store in order to pursue his craft (pay the bills).
Make It Vancouver
Score some seriously good gifts for Christmas at this weekend’s Make It Vancouver, taking place at the PNE Forum all weekend. Shop for one-of-a-kind handmade items from over 250 of Canada’s hottest urban artisans, crafters, and designers. Make It Vancouver has something for everyone on your list– from fashion, accessories, art, jewelry, baby items, home decor — oh, and stuff for the guys too. Make It Vancouver runs every day from 11am until 5pm and admission is $7.00.

Bakers Market
Also happening this weekend (and the best way to unleash your inner Martha Stewart) is the Bakers Market. It takes over the Moberly Arts and Cultural Centre and will be fully loaded with plenty of sweet and savoury treats courtesy of more than 20 bakers. Stock up on Christmas baked goods for gifting and support aspiring local bakers and professionals.
Annual Candlelight Club Dinner
Finally, this Sunday we vote you ditch your own kitchen and, instead, head over to Chambar for the annual Candlelight Club Dinner. As the final event of the year presented by The Social Concierge (the folks behind Diner en Blanc, Deighton Cup, and more), it’s a unique way to celebrate the festivities with friends, fine food, and cocktails. Enjoy an evening that features an exquisite menu paired alongside Absolut Elyx Vodka cocktail offerings as you’re serenaded by live acoustic music in a stunning setting. For tickets and info click here. Tickets will sell out, so don’t wait.
