Heading into the lazy days of summer doesn’t mean there’s not plenty to do around the city. This weekend’s festivities pretty much assure us of that. Take a look at some events and happenings we found, and start filling up the days ahead…
#BikeRave 2014
#BikeRave 2014 is back and promises to be bigger and better than ever. What does a bike rave entail exactly? Well, first off, you’ll need a cruisy two-wheeler you aren’t afraid of adorning with transportable speakers, streamers, and glow sticks. Next, get ready to deck yourself out like it’s the 90s in your best sparkly gear and join hundreds of others for a coordinated (and super fun) ride around the city as you all simultaneously play the same curated dance music and have a ton of fun. It all goes down Saturday and you’ll find the details here.

East Van Summer Jam
Want to catch some music but not feeling so mobile? No problem. Head to the East Van Summer Jam instead. It’s taking place at Strathcona Park and will feature the sounds of local favorites The Boom Booms, The Funkhunters, Heatwave, The New Royals, The Rascalz, and more. Make a day of it (the event runs from 1pm until 9pm) and pack your picnic gear… The event offers up plenty to keep you occupied and entertained: free soccer and basketball tournaments, food trucks, a chance to skate alongside the Etnies Skate Team, and more. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.
MEC Paddlefest
Throw a little outdoors action into the weekend mix by checking out the MEC Paddlefest this Saturday. It’s the perfect opportunity to try your hand at this ever-popular sport. Catch a hands-on skills clinic, hunt for the perfect board or kayak (and score a great deal), meet vendors, and get geared up for a great summer on the ocean.
2nd Annual Great Gatsby Garden Party
Rowena’s Inn on the River is gearing up to host their 2nd Annual Great Gatsby Garden Party this Sunday afternoon. It’s a great excuse to dig out your flapper dress, don a bow tie, and grab your shades for a pool party like no other. They’ve got lots in store to entertain and will feature local artisans, Charleston dancers, vintage cars, live entertainment from Jen Hodge, and plenty of 1920s glam to get you in the mood to party. Tickets are available for $25, and the event runs from 1pm until 4pm.

Deighton Cup
We know this next event falls just outside of the weekend – but we think you definitely want to have it on your radar for Monday. Mine & Yours is hosting a special Deighton Cup Hat Salon at their boutique off Hornby Street. It’s your exclusive opportunity to score the perfect look for this summer’s Deighton Cup (one of Vancouver’s top summer events you have to attend). They’ll have Dominique Hanke of Hive Mind Millinery on-hand showcasing her latest looks. Have fun mingling with like-minded fashionistas who love a good deal, sip wine, nosh on tasty bites from Parlour Restaurant, and score styling tips courtesy of Crystal Carson, too.
