Ye Skewers Hot Pot, a new authentic Sichuan Skewered-style hot pot restaurant is introducing another classic form of enjoying hot pot to GTA. Opened on Sept. 17th in Scarborough, Ye Skewers Hot Pot provides the guests with a one-of-a-kind in a city DIY dining experience that has already taken over China and is expected to become Toronto’s new big thing! The Eats

Ye Skewers Hot Pot is providing the wonders of traditional Sichuanese skewer-style hotpot. Everything that can be possibly eaten on a stick can be found here. The restaurant is featuring over 100 different bite-sized food items on bamboo skewers, starting from the house-special marinated meat wraps to seafood and vegetables, ready to be dipped in a simmering broth.

The concept of putting each ingredient on a skewer came from the idea of making hotpot interactive for diners. Unlike other hotpot styles, skewering allows customers to experiment with the individual items instead of ordering entire plates of the same thing. Additionally, what’s great about this place is that you can get your own plate instead of getting one big plate for a table, which allows to try a whole bunch of different menu items all at once!

Also featured there is the sauce bar with a variety of sauces that you can mix up to get your special taste. After you have chosen the sauce and ordered a soup base (and yes, they have a bunch of different ones with a different spice levels), you get to pick your own all you can eat skewers of meats, seafood or veggies from the “Skewers Hall” – the display of the restaurant wide selection of skewers and dips.

Must Haves

But what’s the key ingredient for the authentic hot pot? The beef. A wide selection of Ye’s highest grade beefs includes almost every part of cow such as shanks, shoulders and so on. No matter what beef skewer you’re going to order, each of them is marinated with over 26 special secret ingredients for the most unique flavour combination.

Among from beef, Ye has got a signature selection of hot pot soup bases. It includes rich buttery spicy soup base, where thirty secret ingredients are slowly fried by two people for over ten hours in order to develop an unreal depth of flavor. To ensure the broth’s quality and authenticity are maintained, special chilies like the famous “wrangler mountain” and the crazy spicy weiyuanseven-star chilli are air-shipped from China weekly, making Ye the ultimate spot to get an authentic taste of Sichuan in the city.

Don’t Forget Dessert…

The selection of desserts is not so wide as for the skewers, but you’ll definitely enjoy the complimentary ice cream which is perfect for soothing your tongue after the spicy foods (and yes, this place is definitely a go-to for spicy lovers, so beware of spice levels!)

The Drinks

Featured are the variety of fruit-based cold drinks with a rich fruity flavour, also perfect for calming down your taste receptors after the main course. For beer lovers – the authentic Chinese Tsingtao lager beer is also included in the menu.

The Looks

The restaurant is bright and cozy, with a mix of modern interior design ideas and authentic Chinese hints. Unlike the other hot pot spots, Ye Skewers has a pretty good ventilation, which is making the stay nice and comfortable (and not hot & steamy). The dimmed lights create the pleasant, quiet atmosphere, perfect for both night out with friends and a date.

The VIBE

As “Ye” is the Sichuanese for the term “bro” in English, Ye Skewers is filled with a chill, relaxed, friendly vibe. This name was chosen by the owners, three Sichuanese friends, each of whom is master of a different aspect of Sichuan cuisine, in order to make this place feel like a friend’s home. For them, who have been living in Toronto for more than 15 years, Sichuanese skewer-style hot pot is a throwback to their childhoods in their hometown. Nevertheless skewers hotpot is a classic specialty in their region, they wanted to make it approachable and fun for everyone here, in Toronto, whether diners have had it before or not.
