Don’t let people tell you your 30s will be the best time of your life in a tone that suggests your looks will fade so you better find inner peace. Vicki’s Pick is a weekly beauty column that features Vicki’s all-time favourite beauty products and latest discoveries for women in their 30s who plan on staying pretty on the outside for a long, long time. Inner peace is optional.
There’s nothing more annoying than having to cram a giant cosmetic case into an otherwise compact carry-on for a weekend away simply because a day without your favourite products sounds nightmarishly unmanageable at best. That said, there’s also nothing like a freakishly jam-packed overnight bag to convince your quasi-significant other that perhaps you’re more high maintenance than you originally let on.

The truth is, I relish the opportunity to use less beauty products in the summer when just the tiniest bit of sun lets me do without daily foundation, blush, and even my blow dryer. But, unfortunately, all the SPF-wearing days have made my skin irritable, and the chain of midsummer heatwaves has made my newly-dyed platinum blonde hair a little on the dry and unruly side (read: Courtney Love side).
Enter my new saviour: The Body Shop Brazil Nut Beautifying Oil (regularly $15 but currently on sale for $7.50). I was always a little nervous to use oil as a face moisturizer given that I still get pimples in my 30s, but when one of my closest and vainest of friends told me he switched to oil to both clean and moisturize his face I decided to try it out. I picked up The Body Shop Brazil Nut Beautifying Oil in part because it’s made for head-to-toe moisture and can be used on your face, body, and hair. I figured if it did a number on my pores, at least I’d have a new frizz fighter and body oil.
As it turns out, this stuff actually works wonders on my dry eye area, so much so that I’ve actually been using it as a makeup remover as well. I apply it day and night to my face (I use a couple more drops at nighttime than I do in the day for added overnight moisture) because, while it’s an oil, it’s fast-absorbing, so I’m able to put makeup on almost immediately after I apply it (though I like to make a coffee while I pretend it’s working its wonders). The nutty scent is definitely sexy as a body moisturizer too, but I’ve actually been loving it most as a frizz-fighting aid. I run just a few drops of it through my almost dry hair, and sometimes I add a few drops to my regular conditioner for added moisture. When I’ve got time on my hands, I comb a dollop of the oil through my hair about a half hour before I shampoo as a bit of a deep conditioning treatment.
The best part about this oil is that it comes in a handy 100mL bottle, so you’ll glide through airport security like the perfectly oiled-up natural beauty you are (or at least pretend to be). No need to check your luggage when one of the only beauty products you need fits nicely into your understated, oh-so roomy carry-on. Who are you… Wonder Woman? Nobody has to know.
