Don’t let people tell you your 30s will be the best time of your life in a tone that suggests your looks will fade so you better find inner peace. Vicki’s Pick is a weekly beauty column that features Vicki’s all-time favourite beauty products and latest discoveries for women in their 30s who plan on staying pretty on the outside for a long, long time. Inner peace is optional.
Yes, I love expensive products, the idea of expensive products, and you will sometimes even find me at Sephora asking for samples of expensive products that I’ve secretly already owned a million times over. I’ve even written about my sneaky product-scoring skills in an article appropriately titled “How To Get Samples Of Beauty Products You Can’t Afford” (even the poorest of poor days can’t stop my love of Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup from being requited – we were meant to be together). I don’t love them because they’re expensive; I love them because they’re good. The obsessiveness only factors in when I feel like my bank account is denying me them.
I also love inexpensive products. On days when I’m feeling particularly broke, for instance, you’ll often find me in the beauty aisles of Shoppers Drug Mart spinning in mad circles whilst maniacally chanting, “I can have everything… everything!” I mean, when you factor in the Optimum points, it’s almost like they’re paying me to shop there.

One of the products I’ve actually used the most over the course of summer 2014 has been a bronzer I picked up in the drugstore: CoverGirl Clean Glow Bronzer in Spices-120 ($7.97, though prices vary). Even though it’s a 3-in-1 multi-shade compact, I actually just make a circular motion over the three shades with my giant bronzing brush before dusting it over my cheekbones and then lightly on the bridge of my nose, forehead, and chin for a faux tan. I’ve been rocking bare skin (read: no foundation) a lot this summer, and this stuff still looks great on my naked cheeks – but I’m not so snobby to avoid mixing it with my expensive products when I’m getting a little more dolled up for a night out or because of an adult acne breakout. That’s right, I don my CoverGirl Clean Glow Bronzer over my Giorgio Armani Maestro like they were meant to go together… and as far as my bank account is concerned, they actually are.
