If you’re anything like me, you love hot weather, blue skies, lying on a beach, and catching some rays while sipping on some deliciously cold cocktails. Heaven, right? News Flash: There’s a new spot opening tomorrow that is so close to that visual you may actually feel like you’re on vacation for the day. No, it’s not a beach or a resort. It’s a beautiful pool bar that has a South Beach/South of France feel to it, and yes, it is indeed in Toronto…
Cabana Pool Bar, the new endeavor by restaurateur and nightclub genius Charles Khabouth, opens its doors tomorrow at 11 Polson Street – and… it… is… stunning!
Earlier this week, we had the opportunity to get a sneak peek of the beach club/restaurant/bar concept. Truth be told, when I got the invitation, I thought it was the rooftop at the Guv that had undergone a facelift. Dead wrong. As the Uber car drove on past Guvernment, I thought, Oh! Well it must just be a li’l further down…

Slightly further down may not be what I had expected as we had now clocked in 20 minutes in the cab from DT West – alright, it’s not next door, but it’s well worth the drive!
When we walked along the waterfront towards this mysterious space, I just kept oohing and awing at the gorgeous view of the water and city backdrop as my lovely partner in crime complained of the heat in his wool sweater. But when we arrived, we were both floored. Mr. Khabouth has done it again – and nailed it. The space is huge, with seating for 900 and licensed to fit about 2,500, and the décor is very Miami chic – immediately I had visions of Nikki Beach.
The beautiful space with cabanas, booths, day beds and a Vegas style pool offers cocktails and a menu designed and executed by Chef Jamie Meireles of Oliver & Bonacini Events. Items on the menu include ceviche, sandwiches, burgers, pizza, sushi, sashimi, and vegan options – it is a menu that truly offers something for everyone.
No doubt about it, Cabana Pool Bar will do amazingly well on the weekends and probably turn into a party by sundown. And as of July 1st, it will be open weekdays when I’m sure it will be slightly quieter… I know where I’m headed next time I call in sick!
