New culinary web site and event concepts pop up all the time. Some are good, some are not, and then there’s those that you go “oh how very cool is this!”. When I heard about Dish Duel, www.DishDuelTO.com, I was somewhat intrigued – especially given how often I eat out. Then I found out a great friend and food writer, Stella Yu, was one of the brains behind this child so I knew I needed to do a vlog to somehow alert everyone about how fun this culinary tournament is. So rather than try to describe what is they are doing, I have literally copy and pasted the concept as the conceptualizers are the ones who can describe it best :
Every time you open a menu, you have one question: what’s the best thing on the menu? You’ll ask servers to tell you their opinion. You’ll ask your friends before you go. You’ll ask the nice couple beside you. Not that we don’t endorse all of this asking, but what if the restaurant flat-out told you a specific dish was awesome? Dish Duel asks restaurants to present their best dish for an online winner-take-all tournament, where you and our esteemed bloggers decide the champ.

First, you vote online. Second, two bloggers go taste and rate the dish. Third, we combine everything into a total score. Here’s how we calculate it:
21/25 (blogger 1) + 20/25 (blogger 2) + 46% (the vote) = 87.
In case you’re curious, our bloggers rate on taste (/15), presentation (/5) and originality (/5) for the total score of 25.
The voting for this first epic tournament begins Feb 18th, with each round of voting running a week at a time. As you and our team decide on the best dishes, we’ll watch the cream rise to the top until a Dish Duel Champion is crowned on March 17th.
