Sensual Bachata
Although traditional bachata originates from the Dominican Republic, sensual bachata was born in Cádiz, Spain. This original take on the traditional style incorporates longer movements and isolations and is now one of the most popular couple dance styles in the world. The basic dance steps of traditional bachata (step together, step tap) are maintained with added styling and accentuated movement. If all of this sounds foreign to you, don’t worry as there will be two complimentary lessons provided at the event before you’re left on your own to social dance. Although it may seem intimidating, we all have to start somewhere.

Clark Ji
Commonly referred to as the ‘King of Sensual Bachata’ in Toronto, Clark Ji (@dancingwithclark) is hosting Bachata Exclusive. Not only is Clark one of the best dancers in the city, but he also spends his time teaching and sharing his love for dance through lessons and online content. If you want to practice before the event, you can go through his IG and watch him dance and explain some basic steps and styling tips.
I had the pleasure of meeting Clark at the first social dance I ever attended and as soon as he found out it was my first time, he went out of his way to ensure I felt comfortable and confident in the dance. Sensual bachata puts you in a position of vulnerability as the follower as you have to put your trust in the leader to guide you and Clark made that relationship incredibly easy. There’s no one I would recommend to learn from more than him and this event is the perfect opportunity to both learn from and then dance with the best.
