From groundbreaking designers and fashion industry icons to world-famous supermodels to style-savvy Hollywood stars, Canadian fashion royalty came out to celebrate CAFA 2015 this past weekend at the Fairmont Royal York. Vv Magazine was there to cheer on the big award winners and, of course, make mental notes of the best-dressed guests.
It truly was a fairly tale. Taking place in a castle, the Fairmont Royal York, the 2015 Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards held court with the country’s fashion princesses, Prince Charmings, and queen bees. With a few village drunks to boot, the party was everything you’d expect from the style community: beautiful people, fabulous music, and even more beautiful, fabulous clothing.
Hosted by Yahoo’s style czar Joe Zee (notably wearing Canadian menswear favourites Frank & Oak) the CAFAs brought together a nominees list featuring some of the most recognizable names in style from above the 49th parallel. The big winners of the night included World MasterCard Fashion Week darling Sid Neigum, creative genius Mikhael Kale, and blogger Tommy Ton, who took home two trophies.

While we congratulate everybody who won this year, the full nominees list featured many names we felt were a little too safe and Toronto-centric. This is not an outright criticism, rather more a statement acknowledging that the CAFAs are in their nascent stage and we simply hope that next year’s list will include some less familiar faces and more diversity.
On the red carpet, the clear winner was Jenna Bitove in a trailing crimson red lace Mikael D gown. Mum-to-be Coco Rocha was also radiant in Greta Constantine, while America’s Next Top Model alum Winnie Harlow glowed in Mikael D as well. Our favourite “OMG” celebrity sighting moments came from Bravo’s Brad Goreski (who is just as yummy in real life, if not yummier), Elisha Cuthbert, and Mary Zilba of The Real Housewives of Vancouver.
