So when Nicki forwarded me an invite to the opening of ‘CheeseWerks’, I was excited. Not only is this a grilled cheese haven but it is also a 5 minute walk from where I live. And they serve beer… jackpot. Add a few sexy friends into the mix (@Amazerall, @JacNicosia) and we were on our way to a perfect party. The only thing missing was the BF which gives me an excellent excuse for a future, cheesy date-night!
On arrival there was a healthy offering of local, craft beer and Ontario wine. Beer for me, wine for Laborie. As the grilled cheese samples were passed around, the aroma was enough to gain 5lbs. Offerings included ‘The original’ (aged and smoked cheddars on a peppercorn sourdough), the ‘Los Angeles’ (Havarti, Smashed Avocado, Arugula, Citrus Compote grilled on Angeligus Sourdough) and the ‘Beijing’ (Asiago, BBQ Pork, Hoisin, slivered Green Onion grilled on Green Onion Potato Bread – my fav). Each combination was put together meticulously with the perfect accompaniments, the perfect bread and of course the perfect cheese.

On meeting the owners, Tom and Kevin, it is easy to guess their secret. They have an obvious passion for what they do and a genuine warmth towards all of their guests. To be in their company was a pleasure and I am excited to watch as their ooey-gooey star rises!
CheeseWerks is located at 56 Bathurst St at the corner of Bathurst and Wellington. They are open at 11am Tuesdays through Sundays for dine-in and take-out. Oh, and they also offer gluten and lactose free options for those who don’t have such a great relationship with cheese… my thoughts are with you.
