As much as a grilled meat or fried chicken can do the trick when it comes to comfort food, sometimes you just want a submarine sandwich. One that’s filled with meat, veggies and sauces, all to create different flavours. And that’s exactly what you can expect at the Italian deli in Toronto, Elm Street Italian Deli. It is headed by Chef Lawrence LaPianta, who is the pit master and owner at Cherry Street Bar-B-Que.

If the menu’s anything to go by, it’s easy to say that the shop is definitely a meat lover’s paradise. With over a dozen sandwiches to choose from (one of them being a vegetarian option), the deli isn’t afraid to bring out all the stops when it comes to the meat. The team also partners with various local businesses in order to stay aligned with the growing demand, including with bakers and butchers.
What’s On The Menu?
One of their popular sandwiches is the Don of Elm St. The sub comes filled with mortadella, Abruzzo salami, capicola, provolone, roasted peppers, onion and tomato. Other cold cut sandwiches that are available include Mikey Morts, Sammy ‘the Ham’, and Sammy Davis Jr.

If you’re on the hunt for a meatball sub, then Bobby ‘B’ is the answer, which contains beef and pork meatballs. And the Sergio Leone comes with Tuscan braised beef, garlic rapini, roasted red peppers and provolone. For a vegetarian sandwich, La Regina is your pick. The sandwiches are all available in two sizes of full and half. Salads like Elm Green, Kale, and Beet & Apple can also be gotten as sides.
