In VTV’s latest installment of “Talk Dirty to Me with Sara Starkman…” our relationship expert discusses how you can achieve a healthier sex life.
It’s the end of the week. You’ve been thinking about nookie with your baby all day. You get home from work and both do some chores, make dinner together, watch your weekly sitcom-must, all the while whispering sweet nothings into each other’s ears and slyly winking at every thought of what’s going to happen when you eventually get under the covers. Soon you’re doing the dishes, packing lunches, getting ready for bed, and it hits you: you are so exhausted you may fall asleep standing in the bathroom with the toothbrush in your mouth.
It happens… we’ve all been there. Life gets hectic, we have higher hopes than energy levels, and before you know it you’re hitting the snooze button caught between wondering if you should initiate sex right then or if you should just close your eyes and dream about it because moving is way too difficult (and the other person may slap you).

Although that routine may seem common (which it definitely is) there are ways around the slump to boost your energy levels and keep things steamy in the sac regardless of the day or time (because let’s face it, getting down to business doesn’t actually take that long).
To put it simply (because that’s how I do), nutrients give us power and power allows us to work hard and play hard all week long. If your diet is heavy in starches, unrefined sugars and gluten (read: potatoes, chocolate bars, and bagels) you are always going to feel heavier and more lethargic (regardless of your actual weight). For all those nutrition naysayers, think about it like this: How many times have you rolled directly from a holiday meal onto the couch for a snooze? Those heavy foods and large portion sizes are killer. Whenever we pay more attention to our diet and ensure we’re drinking lots of pure water, exercising (both in and outside of the bedroom), eating fruits, vegetables and healthy fats and grains, we’re lighter, brighter, able to sleep better, wake up more easily and in better overall shape. Trust me when I say that this added energy and confidence does wonders for your sex life.
Now I’m not saying you should cut out all of the greasy, sugary foods you love. However, I am saying you should try to explore the delicious and nutritious options out there because I’d like to bet you’d rather more of the hot and heavy and less of the tired and troubled.
