Coming into your villain era takes on a new meaning this year because travel is back with a vengeance. For those of you who have been hesitant to fly, it’s time to take a revenge trip! In fact, our data from KAYAK shows that international flight searches are up nearly 100 per cent (98% if we’re counting) compared to last year, proof that Canadians are ticking off their travel bucket lists. And they’re doing it in more ways than one.
Canada’s year of revenge travel
What do we mean by revenge travel? We’re saying Canadians are making up for lost time and searching to travel! Despite rising flight prices (+21%), Canadians are looking for unique experiences – and searching far and wide to get there.
In fact, cities in the Asia Pacific are winning hearts with top-searched international destinations including Manila, Tokyo and Bangkok. With airfare to the South Pacific down an average of 25 per cent since last year, price costs doesn’t have to come at the expense of Canadians craving vibrant street culture, kaleidoscopic nightlife and experiencing a world of flavours.

The three S’s for those looking to save – sun, sand and soar end of week.
For those with more of an eye on their wallet, cool and coastal international cities are the move. KAYAK data shows flights to coastal destinations like Melbourne, Vaitape, Copenhagen, Croatia, and Greece are trending cheaper than last year. If you’re flexible on when to fly, Thursdays and Fridays are the best departure days, as KAYAK data historically shows the lowest flight prices on average if you travel on one of these days.
Savouring every second of the journey.
If there’s one thing Canadians prioritized over the years, it’s their mental well-being – which is what a lot of travellers look for in their travel experience. Time away is a big part of feeling at ease and, compared to last year, we’re seeing the average flight booking window for Canadians increase by more than a month (21%) for domestic and two months (14%) for international travel. Searches for international accommodations also reign supreme, with searches up 94 per cent compared to last year, with some of the most reasonable rates in Asia, the South Pacific and Europe.
Canadians are becoming comfortable with booking and planning ahead to ensure convenience along with the perfect trip.
