New year, new me? Think again. New year, same restrictions. Just as things were starting to look better for the world, the new variant decided it was time to travel (which means we’re now advised to stop travelling *facepalm*). Toronto does a lot of things really well and although we’ve been lucky enough to enjoy the holiday festivities thus far, New Years Eve was scheduled to be our most epic night of 2021. Unfortunately, we’re back to the ‘new normal’ AKA restrictions and capacity limitations.

New Years: Cancelled
Chief Medical Officer of Health Kieran Moore said that “Omicron will not take a holiday”. Well you heard it here folks, unfortunately, unlike Justin Trudeau on Reconciliation Day, Omicron will NOT be taking a holiday! The Ontario provincial government has just announced new restrictions that will limit capacity back to 50% in the following places:

#Omicron is spreading unlike anything we have seen.

Right now, the United Kingdom is facing a tidal wave of Omicron infections that threatens the entirety of their health system. We cannot allow that scenario to take hold here. pic.twitter.com/eIZIxF8q5M
If you had any plans for New Years, you’re going to want to get back to the drawing board. Restaurants and bars have to limit seating to 10 a table, alcohol sales are restricted after 10 p.m and restaurants have to close by 11 p.m. If that wasn’t enough, food and drink will be prohibited from sporting events, concert venues, theatres, casinos and other such venues. You also won’t be able to dance or sing unless you’re a professional worker. Better luck next year?
