Sure, we might not write in-depth cultural critiques of everything that makes a splash on pop culture’s radar every week, but that doesn’t mean we’re not talking about it around the Vv Magazine office watercooler. That’s why, every Friday, Vv Magazine’s editors roundup the stuff we loved, hated, debated, and obsessed over during the week that was with Vv’s Over-rated/Under-rated. We’re not ashamed to admit that we do more than just keep up with the Kardashians — we have office polls on what everyone from Bruce Jenner and Kate Middleton to Marc Jacobs and Justin Trudeau will do next…
Under-rated: Drake announces re-opening of Sotto Sotto on Twitter
What happens after Drake’s long-time muse and “second home,” Yorkville restaurant Sotto Sotto, burns down mysteriously on Christmas Day? Eff starting from the bottom. The whole team at Sotto Sotto moved two doors down to 120 Avenue (aka the old Dyne location). See, Drizzy’s struggle in the hard knock life of Yorkville is real.
Over-rated: Iggy Azalea quits Twitter, aka “the ugliest reflection of mankind there is”
Rapper Iggy Azalea took to the internet (what else, right?) to announce plans to quit Twitter because “the hatred and pettiness I see online at all times is at making me become an angry person and I cannot be that [sic].” But she had to tell you on the internet first, obviously, because it turns out the internet is also a great way to send messages of all kinds (like the re-opening of Sotto Sotto, riiiiiiight?)
Under-rated: Public sex trend
If Toronto kicked off the public sex trend when hand jobs became the new “is this seat taken?” on the TTC, California classed it up this past Valentine’s Day when a couple who met on a bus got off at the same stop to have sex in a strip mall parking lot. The classy duo were caught on camera by the owner of a prom dress shop and the video went viral. Who says romance is dead?
Over-rated: Beyonce’s pre-Photoshop acne in leaked L’Oreal ad
The last time our skin looked that bad was right now.
Under-rated: Karl Lagerfeld building a condo in Toronto
Finally, Toronto condo talk that doesn’t bore us to tears. For whatever insane reason, Uncle Karl is teaming up with CD Capital Developments and Freed Developments to design the residential lobby spaces in the Art Shoppe Lofts + Condos at Yonge and Eglinton — which is right near the Pickel Barrel, of course. Yonge and Eg makes perfect sense for Lagerfeld’s first North American condo project. With so much excitement in the air, we’re sure we’re thinking what’s on everyone’s mind: does this mean Choupette is coming to TO?
Over-rated: Blur announces new album The Magic Whip after 12 years
What, were the Gin Blossoms not available to remind us of our own mortality?
Under-rated: Justin Bieber’s tween stash & red leather look at fashion week
Like a young Jonathan Taylor Thomas, the Biebs’ comeback is pure genius. Where’d he get that jacket… in Air Supply’s tour van in 1985?
