We might not write about every little thing on the pop culture radar, but that doesn’t mean we’re not talking about it. That’s why each Friday Vv Magazine’s editors round up the stuff we loved, hated, debated and obsessed in OVER/UNDER-RATED.
Under-rated: Caitlyn Jenner’s debut
A Vanity Fair cover and 2 million Twitter followers before even 24 hours went by? My, it’s a brand new day.
Over-rated: Over-priced faux-hemia
Um, you know the kind of bandanas grunge kids actually wore still sell for $3 a few doors down at the poster shop, right Urban Outfitters? We thought faux-emia in the internet era would be obvious and shameful, but behold: $6 for a “classic vintage paisley-print bandana, rediscovered by our restyling team at Urban Renewal.” If that sounds bonkers to you, get a load of the rationale: “washed and worn, each Urban Renewal Vintage piece is one-of-a-kind and may vary slightly from item to item. The color and style of the bandana that you receive will be the same as the photo, but details such as wear and pattern may vary slightly.”

Under-rated: Cotton candy art at OCAD
It’s the new marzipan.
Over-rated: Kendall + Kylie for TopShop
This collection looks like the accidental lovechild conceived the one time the wardrobe departments from That ’70s Show and Laguna Beach had a mixer. Here’s some advice, girls: If you’re going to design a vintage inspired collection, consider revisiting actual footage from the decade in question and not just Instagram pics of Kate Bosworth’s all-time best Coachella looks. Kate’s no spring millennial, but she’s still only old enough to have real style nostalgia for scrunchies, stirrup pants, and Hyper Color t-shirts. Bring those back with a cutting-edge twist and we’ll bow down.

Under-rated: UnReal
A delicious new fictional drama about behind-the-scenes of reality TV Bachelor-style shows just in time for summer.
Deserved: Amy Schumer coming to Toronto
Under-rated: PowerBall at The PowerPlant
The annual event that is the only time it’s appropriate to use the term, “The party that rocks the party.”
Fair: Field Trip
Sure, there’s no Broken Social Scene or even Bloc Party this year, but outdoor music festivals unofficially kick off for the summer season here and in NYC. With all that Tinder action, expect the biggest ’70s trend of the weekend to be syphilis.

Under-rated: Aesop is coming
Sometimes we hate on how much West Queen West is being gentrified for obvious reasons: we’re renters. We can cut yuppies to shreds just talking about Anthropologie’s new location: “Of course, the ol’ church is now Urban Outfitters for the after college set.” Australian beauty brand Aesop is bringing its gorgeous face oils and expensive-smelling parfum to told Bicyclette–you know, near the old Swan that’s soon to be Swan by Rose & Sons.
