We might not write about every little thing on the pop culture radar, but that doesn’t mean we’re not talking about it. That’s why each Friday Vv Magazine’s editors round up the stuff we loved, hated, debated and obsessed in OVER/UNDER-RATED.
Under-rated: Natalie Portman’s Harvard commencement speech
Getting high, insecurities, ghost writers – this speech has everything, and it’s delivered by a famous person to boot. Our alma mater couldn’t even get a former cast member of Degrassi.
Over-rated: Johnny Depp’s potential jail time for smuggling dogs into Australia
Unless swallowed condoms and anal cavity searches are involved, it’s not smuggling.
Under-rated: Photographer Nick Knight interviews Kate Moss
Kate rarely does interviews, which makes this candid interview so fascinating. Moss addresses her obsessive ex, photographer Mario Sorrenti, who famously shot her Calvin Klein Obsession ad, and why she doesn’t want to live the typical stretch-limo 90s supermodel life (cough, Naomi and Christy). Kate also brushes off drug rumours and dishes on ex-beau Johnny Depp. You’re welcome.
Over-rated: 38 brand new emojis coming
Unciode, the company behind emojis, made headlines this week announcing a brand-new slew of digitally shareable icons to hit the market in 2016. But what the hell are we supposed to do with bacon, a drooling face and a prince? Give us “unexpected diarrhea attack during PowerPoint presentation” face and we’ll get excited.
Under-rated: And the new face of Marc Jacobs is…
Cher! Do you believe in being a muse after 65? Cher certainly makes us believe that being a senior citizen (she’s 69) is super sexy. Fingers crossed for ass-less chaps, a la Turn Back Time.
Over-rated: Harry Styles’ $600 90-minute sheep placenta facials
The One Direction star’s Beverly Hills-based aesthetician Louise Deschamps may have let the cat out of the bag regarding Harry’s favourite beauty treatment. But wanna know the real secret to Harry’s great skin? Being 21.
Under-rated: “Bill Nye Explains The Universe” on Inside Amy Schumer
The universe is telling us to start the weekend early.
Over-rated: Kim Kardashian’s Marilyn Monroe-inspired Vogue Brasil cover
She’s not quite Marilyn, and Vogue Brasil still not quite Vogue. Keep trying, Kimmy, keep trying.
Over-rated: The long-awaited arrival of Ben Affleck on set of Suicide Squad
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s still a stunt-double standing on the roof of The Joker’s car! At least that’s actually Jared Leto and Margot Robbie inside.
Under-rated: Lindsay Lohan finally off probation after 8 years
Is there some kind of real-life Freaky Friday going on with Blake Lively that we don’t know about? Either way, congrats, Lindsanity. Next up: that ol’ acting career. We’re still waiting for Mean Girls 2.
