Most people know Wuxly Movement for as a proudly Canadian outerwear brand. And if you don’t know us yet, well here’s a little introduction. We provide warm Canadian made outerwear to help people stay warm while making ethical fashion choices. All of our outerwear is animal-friendly and sustainably made.
When COVID-19 really hit Toronto, it was… confusing and scary for everyone and suddenly we had a new vocabulary of phrases and words we never thought we’d be using every day. Who would have thought ‘social distancing’ would be an everyday thing?! With the fear for loved ones safely and health also on everyone’s mind.
Our team quickly adapted to working from home being dressed up above the waist and pj pants below to match, with kids playing in the background, dogs barking and glitching internet connections, we’ve been making it work. We were closely monitoring the news as everyone had been and we kept hearing that Canada was in a running out of PPE. We knew there must be a way for us to get involved because at Wuxly we have lots of Canadian manufacturing know-how.

We quickly started assembling a network of local manufacturers, securing contracts, speaking with medical and government officials, and getting our certification so that we could produce PPE medical gowns. It has been a whirlwind of two months, focusing all of our efforts on getting these medical gowns produced. Early mornings through till late nights, with lots of coffee in between.
We have received an outpouring of support from manufacturers, our team and friends of the brand and we have seen so many acts of kindness throughout Quarantine. We donated our backstock of fabrics that would have been used in future productions of Wuxly outerwear to produce non-medical gowns that were urgently needed by Mount Sinai hospital. And our friends at My Storage Canada out in Brampton donated their trucks to help with the transportation of the supplies and delivery of the gowns.

With our outerwear being Made-in Canada from the beginning it is one of our core values to produce in Canada and support local and our fellow Canadians. During the pandemic we have seen lots engagement with #supportlocal which makes our hearts grow warm because people are seeing how important it is to support your community and put your purchases towards people and brands that will truly appreciate it. It has been a fast transition from making outerwear to making PPE but it felt right because we are on a mission to #LiveWarm.
