From bottled-shaped pint-size clutches to Olsen sister-worthy over-sized totes for the working girl, there isn’t a type of bag or purse that Minling Pan can’t make unique. The designer and founder of MIN, a recently launched Toronto-based line of bags to suit every need from day to night, Minling brings her creativity to her design studio every day where she dreams up new spins on her favourite accessory. We caught up with Minling to find out about her fashionable career and what bags she’s currently obsessed with.
Give us a snippet about you. What should people know?
I was born in a small town in China called Shiwan, aka ‘Ceramic Capital’, where I drew my love for the arts from my father, who is a ceramic artist. I moved to Toronto eight years ago to pursue my dreams in fashion, and have since founded my own creative style studio in Toronto. Recently I launched my private label named MIN.

What was the first bag or purse you remember falling in love with and why?
The first handbag that I fell in love with was from an independent designer from Asia. It’s been more than 10 years already but I still keep the handbag in my wardrobe. It is a black leather hand-made messenger bag with long long tassels. Very simple but the tassels are long enough to catch people’s attention when I turn in all directions.
What are your go-to bags and purses of the moment from your collection?
The coffee leather tote bag which provides great practicality with style and the Candy Crush inspired jeweled folded clutch which shows off the personality in a fun way.
What are three things you simply cannot live without?
My laptop, my brainstorm sketch book, and coffee.
What’s your favourite restaurant and why?
Fish Soup Supreme located in Scarborough. The soup is very delicious and reminds me of mum’s taste.
